Featured Musician Babatunde Shosanya

Today 1st August 2020, Music Estate is launching her Featured Musician program beginning with this post. The Featured Musician series seek to celebrate notable and outstanding musicians, discuss their works and achievements in the industry as well give insights to all about the featured musician.

This maiden edition features no other than Mr. Babatunde Shosanya, a renowned and exceptional musicologist. Babatunde Shosanya is an organist, a composer, choirmaster, music educationist and writer. He has featured as a Guest Author on Musician. He wrote the following articles – How To Become A Better Music Teacher, Professional Music Examination and Their Relevance Today and The Roles & Responsibilities of Choristers, Instrumentalist, Choirmaster and Technical Team in Fulfuling Corporate Worship. WHO IS BABATUNDE SHOSANYA?

Babatunde Shosanya is a graduate of Banking and Finance who fell in love with Music and passionate about building the musical skills of young people. Babatunde was born to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Shosanya in Ogun state.

EDUCATION

Babatunde Shosanya had his early education at St. Peter’s Faji School, Ajele, Lagos Island and later proceeded to Boy’s Academy, Simpson Street, Lagos Island.

MUSIC EDUCATION

Babatunde holds the Bachelor Degree from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Post Graduate Diploma in music education at University of Lagos, Post Graduate Diploma in Education NTI Kaduna, Masters Category Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria and Masters in Music Education, and Music Theory and Composition at UNILAG.

In addition, Mr. Babatunde Shosanya holds Grade 8 of the Royal Schools of Music (London) In Trumpet, Voice, Practical Musicianship and Theory Music. He also has an Associate Diploma in Music from Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON Center) Grade 8 Theory of Music Trinity Guild Hall London and Diploma in Music from Classique School of Music. He has passed Grade 8 Trumpet, Voice Grade 5 Organ and Grade 7 Theory of music in MUSON Centre. Babatunde was also member of Nigeria Choir that performed at all African Game Coja 2003 which held in Abuja Nigeria and the choir conducted by Professor Lazarus Ekwueme.

MUSIC PERFORMANCES

Babatunde started proper musical training at St. John’s Anglican Church, Aroloya as treble boy moving to Alto and finally to Bass part under the former Director of Music/choirmaster Mr. Kehinde Okusanya (A.G.S.M. LOND). He is a member of MUSON Choir since 2000 till date. He took part in performances of great works such as Samson, Saul, Judas Macabbeaeus, Ode on St. Cecilia Day, the Four Coronation Anthem, among others.
The creation, The seven words of our saviour on the cross, by F.J. Haydn, Elijah Lobsenang (Hymn of praise) by Felix Mendelossohn, Gabriel Faure requiem, Crucifixion by J. Stainer, The ninth symphony, choral Fantasia by L. V, Beethoven, Gloria in D by Antonio Vivaldi, Festac Cantata No. 4 by Ayo Bankole, In The Desert and In the Garden by Terris Tozer, Christmas oratorio OPUS 12 by Camille Saint Saens and Pirate of Penzance by Gillbert and Arthur Sullivan.

Babatunde was an active member of the Lagos City Chorale between 2002-2009. He took part in other major concerts like the visit of President Bill Clinton to Nigeria and the Special Christmas concert in Abuja.

ACHIEVEMENTS/AWARDS

As a performer, Babatunde won the 2nd prize in the Talent Hunt Competition organized by the Cathedral Past Choristers in 2009. He also played the part of David in the Performance of Saul by G.F. Handel with the Christ Apostolic Church, Choir Headquarters in Agege, Lagos. Babatunde is a scholar in Trumpet study under Chief Lt.(Rtd) Ernesi Salawu, organ with Pa James Adekunle (G.G.S.M Lond) and Harmony with Mrs. Edna Soyannwo L.G.S.M (Lond) Former Deputy Director, MUSON School of Music. Babatunde is a Certified Cambridge Music Examiner Lond (IGCSE).

He was the former Music Instructor in Ijebu North Diocese, Ogun State, former Choirmaster/Organist at Christ the King Anglican Church (Apapa Archdeaconry], Choirmaster/Organist St Peter’s Anglican church, Ikota, Lekki. Lagos [Pennisular Archdeaconry], Former Asst Organist St Paul’s Breadfruit Broad street Lagos, Former Choirmaster/Organist Victoria fellowship Church international and Interdenominational, Lekki, Lagos and Former Music Director M.I.C Brass band.

Babatunde teaches Piano, Trumpet, Voice and Theory of music at MUSON Basic School Music and he has prepared many of his students for MUSON, ABRSM and Trinity Guild Hall Exam in theory of music and practical. Presently, Babatunde is the Head of Music at British International School, Victoria Island, Lagos. He is a member of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). He is preparing for A.T.C.L. Trinity Guildhall London and Diploma in Teaching and Performance ABRSM (London). He desires to improve on his skills and teaching techniques, in organ playing and hopes to continue his studies in Music up to doctoral level.
