Most Italian operas lack happy endings, but this production ended on a happy note that left everyone in the audience with a big smile. Yes, it was a surprise proposal on Opera Stage.
At the end of “Tosca” an opera by Puccini, performed by the San Francisco Opera, Bass Solomon Howard proposed marriage to Soprano Ailyn Perez on Sunday September 5, 2021.
This proposal was done during the curtain call of the final production of the opera. We’ve got to give it to Bass Solomon Howard, singing those florid Puccini melodies with his stomach pregnant of those proposal idea must have been quite a weight.

It went like this, when the entire cast gathered for the final bow during curtain call, Solomon Howard broke the hand-holding chain, stepped forward and gestured the crowd to hold their applause. In the dead silence that echoed in the opera theater, Solomon went on one knee and popped the question to soprano Ailyn Perez who had played the title role as Tosca.
In this tragic opera, Tosca died in the end after capturing the audience with beautiful singing. Thus leaving the theater goers broken heated. Thanks to Solomon Howard, this crowd went home all smiling.
